A decorating style has physical characteristics that identify it with a particular region, era, or artistic movement--English Victorian, Southwestern, Arts and Crafts, Art Deco, and so on. Because certain colours, materials, and decorative motifs are linked to certain historic decorating styles, they can be used to evoke the character of a period--or simply to personalize and give dignity to a bland modern room.
