A decorating style has physical
characteristics that identify it with a particular region, era,
or artistic movement--English Victorian, Southwestern, Arts
and Crafts, Art Deco, and so on. Because certain colours, materials,
and decorative motifs are linked to certain historic decorating
styles, they can be used to evoke the character of a period--or
simply to personalize and give dignity to a bland modern room.
Representative styles include the
following:
Period (or traditional)
Regional
Romantic
Contemporary (also high-tech, modernistic)
Eclectic
This said, rarely are styles slavish replicas of historical
designs. More typically, bathroom designers like Elite select
among elements that echo the mood of a particular period or
look. What matters is that you choose a style and mood you find
sympathetic and comfortable. And if the bathroom is linked to
adjoining spaces, its look should match or at least complement
the overall style.
It's good to talk!
